NOT SURE WHAT TO SAY?

Here are some ideas:

  1. Voters issued a clear mandate in 2016, that has not yet been acknowledged in Walnut Creek policy. Medical cannabis has been legal in California for over 2 decades. In 2016, 61% of this community asked for non-medical cannabis access. We ask again that our majority vote for Proposition 64 be implemented by this Council.

  2. We don’t fear a properly regulated cannabis industry. Licensed cannabis businesses are required to have robust age confirmation, public safety, and public health procedures.

    1. On the contrary, legal cannabis businesses appear to be associated with reduced or no impact on crime. Peer-reviewed research articles published in the National Institute on Drug Abuse Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization and the Regional Science and Urban Economics show either a decrease in property and violent crime or no increase after a legal cannabis business opened in the area.

  3. We want to Buy Local. Let’s reduce environmental impacts and recirculate money inside our community by supporting our Walnut Creek businesses. Residents want adult-use cannabis and seek out businesses in other cities to get it. We want locally based options.

  4. Level the playing field. Cities generally seek to create a competitive advantage for their hometown businesses. In the case of Walnut Creek cannabis, the city laws disadvantage hometown cannabis businesses. Meanwhile, outside businesses can deliver to WC residents.

Tell them why you value local access to cannabis. Make it personal! Close your comment by asking the City Council to allow adult use sales in Walnut Creek.
